Quadrille — Discovering

left the old
clothes and devices
making space
kept plenty belongings
loved — emotional value
empty shelf
empty cupboard abyss
land undiscovered
discovering
hidden inner terrain
self-filled
lived — all the little things
dumped just a few beliefs
spacious mark
relationships, ideas
lift the old

At first I did not like the unreadable gibberish words, but then I actually appreciated them how they are sitting on the shelves just like old and forgotten, maybe even broken items.

The poem form is a solo Rengay. Rengay is most of the time used as a collaborative poetic form of six linked haiku-style verses, created by Garry Gay in 1992. It focuses on a unifying theme, with a specific structure for two or three poets, making it distinct from traditional Japanese renga and renku.

I needed a bit of structure to create a poem without rhyme, which is something that does not come naturally. For me writing poems come naturally in rhyme. I can’t help it.

  1. Excellent use of form, along with the Quadrille. And the illustration is so evocative. Well done.

  2. I like the thought of cleaning out the old

  3. We are currently sifting through stuff on a big clear out- and this piece really speaks to me.
