First snow – last snow

„First snow“, created with Bing Image Creator (powered by DALL-E, 3; 12.12.2023)

For natural marvel snow sets quite the bar

And yet there was a day before all snow

A thought that just like snow

Could keep my mouth ajar

And one day comes where gone’s all snow

I just deeply pray that day’s still far

It’s Quadrille Monday at dVerseBjörn is hosting and challenged us to chill and crystalise a poem with the word „snow“ in it. Come and join us now or another time.

If you haven’t joined in before, our mission for the Quadrille prompt is to write a poem of any style that is exactly 44 words, not including the title.

  1. I hope the snow will be there for us to see… lovely

  2. I see you dig DALL-E … nice results. I use MidJourney, feeding their bots URL’s of my old digital art works going back as far as into the late 80’s and 90’s — as well as URL’s of my digital collages reaching back as far as that same period. I further prime the MJ bot’s output with selected lines of my poetry, or other verbal command code, and I do final enhancement of the image with Photoshop and Illustrator. I get some interesting results, and it is fun. I think I picked up that you dance with ADHD, something I’ve done my whole life … and I’m gonna be 77 next month. I have to admit, it’s been a roller coaster ride both a blessing and a curse. Certainly had stimulated my creativity, (music, art, lyrics, poetry) but got me in trouble a lot in high school and college days, speaking out in class — or getting bored/distracted and not finishing assignments. But when I wanna focus on something I can do it for hours all the way through meals. 🙄 Anyhow, I know where you’re coming from to that regard. Nice writing here my friend. I’m not sure humans will ever do enough damage to the planet or the weather to permanently end it — but we’re doing a damn good job of screwing things up so badly that we as humans may be long gone. Feels like another time of extinction is coming, just like with the dinosaurs. Anyhow on that lovely thought — happy holidays, Jan !

    • Yes, very relatable. And thanks for the tips on MJ really want to try that now as I actually also like drawing myself a lot. AI is just too convenient and fast.
And yes, I was also rather thinking of a time after all living on our earth. I don’t think that we humans will manage to change the climate so much that it stops snow from falling, because we’d be extinct long before that point.
The last snow will probably fall some time before the sun gets too hot and eventually expands to a red giant and then finally absorbes earth due to expansion beyond earth’s current orbit.

  3. I agree and love, „snow set quite the bar.“

  4. We will always have snow (at least from where I am, Canada). I pray that the climate change will not be too drastic.

  5. I just deeply pray that day’s still far

    *sigh*

    me too, Jan; me too…

    poignantly written.

    sincerely,
    David

  6. I love snow too!
A definite natural wonder I would miss.

  7. Love the poem- but that Last Snow image is very strange! 🙃

    • It was the idea to give an image to the day in the far future some millions of years ahead, when earth is too hot and the last snow flake ever is falling. 😉
Turned out a bit strange, but I somehow like the atmosphere of the picture, that fits in my view.

  8. Hoping it is far, far away, Jan.
