„Der Zipferlake“ is a mythical creature from the equally magnificent German poem by Christian Enzensberger, inspired by the original poem „The Jabberwocky“ by Lewis Carroll. This poem is discovered by the well-known Alice in a mirror-book in the delightful narrative „Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There.“

My name is Jan H. Hellberg and I love poems and quotes. I started learning poems by heart and reciting them at a very early age, 6 years I think. I like to do stage programs where I recite poetry or prose with musical intermezzi.

The poem „Jabberwocky,“ I discovered very early on in a schoolbook. I quickly memorized at least the first stanza of the German version without much effort. The rhyme just stuck in my head and hence I was reciting it quite often to family and friends. This very poem maybe one reason stage performances became a passion I follow next to my vocation. And reciting poetry in particular this one gave me eventually the nickname „Zipferlake“ and therefore I chose this as the name for my blog.
